Global Dinner Table was created to share Robert’s passion about food, beer and wine, and great service with like-minded people. Robert and his wife Sofia share a similar vision about food even though they are both from two different cultures.
One of the common things they believe is the role that food plays as the focal point for community, for sharing and for strengthening relationships with family and friends.
No matter where you are from, food is the focus when you want to spend quality time with friends and family. Dinners, lunches, breakfasts, snacks, hawker centers, ferias, tapas, … all are occasions to connect and to enjoy not just great food but also great conversations that nourish your soul.
Every great memory you have where time flew away, you were always around food. Either preparing it or sharing it, fantastic meals where at the center of the table and awesome conversations stretched for hours.
Global Dinner Table is our way to share with you this feeling of community and the connection with others through food. By sharing a fantastic meal and creating an unforgettable event in a group setting, we feed you with great food and drinks. About
Robert
Robert Chan was born in Malacca, a city on the west coast of Malaysia. He was born into the Peranakan culture, the descendant of Chinese immigrants that arrived to the Malay Peninsula a few centuries ago. This culture blended together not only the Chinese foods, but also the Malay, Indian, British, Japanese, Dutch and Portuguese (Eurasian) recipes. These multi-cultural influences created a unique way of cooking also known as Nyonya cuisine.
Robert lived in Singapore for 9 years and took on all the inspirations from the Singaporean cuisine. Adding to that mixture of cultures, Robert moved to New Orleans in 1999 and then met his now wife, Sofia, who is from Spain. During his years in New Orleans, he was introduced to Cajun and Soul food. In 2005, he was force to relocate to Houston, TX after being hit by Hurricane Katrina. Living in Houston, TX for 15 years, he was able to further hone and expand on his recipes such as the famous Texas BBQ.
Global Dinner Table was formed in April 2019 and was doing great with catering and events in Houston, TX but had to re-focused due to COVID 19. By June 2020, he moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where he re-establishes the company with deeper focus and bigger outlook.
Robert is also a homebrewer and has a passion for creating outstanding beer, which shows in the several awards he has won over the 13 years he has been brewing. With his knowledge for beer and cooking, he combined both passions to deliver unique experiences at his beer tasting dinners.
In his cooking and all his recipes, the influences from all these diverse cultures are blended and brought together to create unique and umami flavors that will capture your palate!
